Bucs Down To Last Out, Nate McLouth Homers
The scene was set. The Pittsburgh Pirates were down one run in the ninth inning. Two on, two out. Nate Mclouth needs a hit to continue his 12 game hitting streak, and he walks to the plate. Takashi Saito is on the hill for the Dodgers. Jose Bautista had singled as did pinch hitter Adam LaRouch to put two men on base.
“I have to guess that was probably a mistake because he has very good stuff, obviously,” said McLouth. “I was looking fastball, and I got it. It’s a great way to kick off a road trip.”
Nate sent the fastball into the right field stands to give the Pirates a 6-4 lead.
Matt Capps then came in with a 1-2-3 inning to get the save, his fourth on the season.
Freddie Sanchez went 3-5 and Nady and Bautista each went 2-4, including a Bautista 2 run homer.
Zach Duke got the start for the Bucs, and even though he didn’t get the win, he kept the game close. Tyler Yates got the win for the Pirates.
